Prof. Dr. James Bakul Sarkar Leads UIU’s BBA in AIS Toward Global Accounting Excellence
United International University (UIU) has been setting new standards in accounting education through its pioneering BBA in Accounting & Information Systems (AIS) program, led by Prof. Dr. James Bakul Sarkar. The program was designed to meet Bangladesh’s growing demand for qualified accountants, a need highlighted by the World Bank, by combining traditional accounting education with modern information systems and analytics.
UIU remains the only private university in Bangladesh to offer such a specialised degree. Since its inception, the AIS program has produced twelve professional accountants, with many more students currently pursuing articleships at Big Four audit firms. Graduates have also secured positions in top banks, audit firms, and multinational corporations, reflecting the program’s strong industry relevance and reputation.
In recognition of its global standards, UIU’s AIS program earned ACBSP accreditation (USA) in 2019, a distinction granted without any conditions, affirming its commitment to international quality assurance and credit transferability. In 2023, it achieved another landmark by receiving ACCA accreditation (UK), granting graduates six course exemptions out of thirteen, thereby streamlining their path toward global professional qualifications.
The program’s strategic partnerships with renowned institutions, including ICAB, ICMAB, ICSB, and BICM, provide students with academic and financial benefits such as course waivers, fee reductions, and admission test exemptions. Financial accessibility remains a core priority, with UIU disbursing nearly Tk. 1 million in scholarships each trimester. Around 15 per cent of AIS students benefit from merit-based scholarships, while top performers can serve as Undergraduate, Teaching, or Research Assistants, gaining professional experience while supporting peers.
To ensure continued industry alignment, the AIS curriculum undergoes frequent revisions based on feedback from practitioners and alumni. New courses like Corporate Financial Reporting and Sustainability Accounting have been added, with Management Audit and Analytics on the way. Analytics training is now embedded across key accounting subjects, empowering students with skills in QuickBooks, Redbook, Xero, Tally, and Power BI.
Beyond academics, UIU emphasises experiential learning through seminars, IFRS quiz competitions, industry visits, and guest lectures by industry leaders. The Accounting Forum, led by faculty members with PhD and professional credentials, organises events throughout the year to foster leadership and communication skills. Additionally, the program guarantees 100 per cent internship placement, supported by citywide transport facilities for students’ convenience.
As Bangladesh’s economy continues to expand, the demand for skilled accountants remains high. UIU’s BBA in AIS program stands out as a model of academic excellence, professional readiness, and financial inclusivity, offering students not just a degree but a meaningful return on investment and a pathway to global success in accounting, finance, and business analytics.

ইউনাইটেড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটিতে (ইউআইইউ) অনুষ্ঠিত হলো দিনব্যাপী “মিডিয়া ফেস্ট–২০২৫”। মঙ্গলবার (২৩ সেপ্টেম্বর) বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মিডিয়া স্টাডিজ অ্যান্ড জার্নালিজম বিভাগের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত এ উৎসবে ছিল নানা আয়োজন ও চমক।
ফেস্টের উদ্বোধন করেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য ড. আবুল কাশেম মিয়া। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন রেজিস্ট্রার ড. জুলফিকার আলী, মানবিক ও সামাজিক বিজ্ঞান অনুষদের ডিন ড. হামিদুল হক, এবং মিডিয়া স্টাডিজ অ্যান্ড জার্নালিজম বিভাগের প্রধান ড. শেখ শফিউল ইসলামসহ বিভাগের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ।
বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন জনপ্রিয় অভিনেত্রী মেহজাবীন চৌধুরী, যিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের অনুপ্রেরণা যোগান এবং গণমাধ্যমের গুরুত্ব নিয়ে বক্তব্য রাখেন।
উৎসবের আয়োজন দিনব্যাপী এ ফেস্টে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় আলোকচিত্র প্রদর্শনী প্রতিযোগিতা, মিডিয়া কুইজ, কনটেন্ট প্রজেকশন ও তারকা কথন। শুধু বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীরাই নয়, বিভিন্ন স্কুল–কলেজ থেকেও অংশ নেয় প্রতিযোগীরা।
বিনোদনমূলক পরিবেশনায় ছিল নাচ–গান ও র্যাম্প শো, যা উৎসবে ভিন্নমাত্রা যোগ করে।
আয়োজকদের মতে, গণমাধ্যমের সঠিক ব্যবহার ও ভবিষ্যৎ সম্ভাবনা সম্পর্কে শিক্ষার্থীদের সচেতনতা বাড়ানোই ছিল এ আয়োজনের মূল উদ্দেশ্য। উক্ত অনুষ্ঠানে শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রাণবন্ত অংশগ্রহণে পুরো ক্যাম্পাস উৎসবমুখর হয়ে ওঠে।
দিনব্যাপী কার্যক্রম শেষে আয়োজকরা জানান, এ ধরনের অনুষ্ঠান শুধু বিনোদন নয়, বরং শিক্ষণীয় অভিজ্ঞতা প্রদান করে।

বাংলাদেশের শীর্ষস্থানীয় বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলোর মধ্যে তুমুল প্রতিযোগিতা শেষে ইউনাইটেড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি (UIU) জিতে নিয়েছে PUBG MOBILE Spooky Soiree Campus Jam-এর চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপ। অন্যদিকে আমেরিকান ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি-বাংলাদেশ (AIUB) অর্জন করেছে সম্মানজনক দ্বিতীয় স্থান। এই আয়োজন শুধু গেমিং প্রতিযোগিতা নয়, বরং এক উৎসবমুখর মিলনমেলায় রূপ নিয়েছিল। spooky vibes, ক্যাম্পাসের উচ্ছ্বাস আর তরুণদের প্রাণচাঞ্চল্যে ইভেন্টটি হয়ে উঠেছিল জমজমাট। উৎসবের আবহ আর তীব্র প্রতিযোগিতা PUBG MOBILE প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশ নেয় দেশের বিভিন্ন বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। গেমের প্রতিটি মুহূর্তে দেখা গেছে শিক্ষার্থীদের কৌশল, টানটান উত্তেজনা আর শেষ মুহূর্তের লড়াই। spooky soiree থিম যোগ করেছে বাড়তি রোমাঞ্চ, যা প্রতিযোগিতাকে দিয়েছে এক অন্য মাত্রা। শিক্ষার্থীদের কণ্ঠে গেমিং-এর মূল্য অনুষ্ঠান চলাকালে স্পোর্টস ক্লাবের আবু নাঈম আশিক বলেন “আমাদের ইউনিভার্সিটিতে পড়াশোনার প্রচুর চাপ। এর মধ্যেও আমাদের খেলাধুলা তেমন একটা হয় না। এই সমস্ত প্রোগ্রাম যদি হয়, আমাদের মানসিকভাবে শান্তি এবং সকলের সাথে একসাথে হয়ে খেলার যে পরিবেশ এটা খুবই আনন্দদায়ক। তাই আমরা অনুরোধ জানাবো ইভেন্টগুলো যাতে আরো বড়োসরে করা হয়।” তার কথায় স্পষ্ট এ ধরনের আয়োজন শিক্ষার্থীদের শুধু বিনোদনই দেয় না, বরং মানসিক প্রশান্তি এনে দেয় এবং সবাইকে একত্রিত করে। ধন্যবাদ সব ক্যাম্পাসকে আয়োজকরা ধন্যবাদ জানিয়েছেন সব বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে, যারা spooky vibes নিয়ে অনুষ্ঠানকে প্রাণবন্ত করে তুলেছে। ইভেন্টটি আবারও প্রমাণ করেছে ই-স্পোর্টস মানে শুধু প্রতিযোগিতা নয়, এটি দলবদ্ধতা, আনন্দ এবং তরুণ প্রজন্মের সীমাহীন সম্ভাবনার এক অনন্য প্রকাশ। চ্যাম্পিয়ন হিসেবে ইউনাইটেড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি নতুন মানদণ্ড তৈরি করেছে, আর এআইইউবি-র দারুণ পারফরম্যান্স নিশ্চিত করেছে ভবিষ্যতের টুর্নামেন্টগুলো আরও উত্তেজনাপূর্ণ হবে। PUBG MOBILE Spooky Soiree Campus Jam 2025 শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য হয়ে থাকবে এক অবিস্মরণীয় অভিজ্ঞতা যেখানে গেমিং, উৎসব আর বন্ধুত্ব মিলেমিশে তৈরি করেছে এক স্মরণীয় আয়োজন।

বিশ্বসেরা ২ শতাংশ গবেষকের তালিকায় বাংলাদেশ থেকে স্থান পেয়েছেন মোট ২৮৬ জন গবেষক। এর মধ্যে রাজধানীর খ্যাতিমান দুটি বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় নর্থ সাউথ ও ব্র্যাক ইউনিভার্সিটি সমান অবস্থান ধরে রেখেছে। উভয় প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকেই ১০ জন করে শিক্ষক-গবেষক এই মর্যাদাপূর্ণ তালিকায় জায়গা পেয়েছেন। তাদের পরপরই রয়েছে ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি অব বিজনেস এগ্রিকালচার অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজি (আইইউবিএটি), যেখান থেকে ৭ জন গবেষক তালিকায় স্থান পেয়েছেন।
গত ১৯ সেপ্টেম্বর যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের স্ট্যানফোর্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং নেদারল্যান্ডসভিত্তিক প্রকাশনা সংস্থা এলসেভিয়ার যৌথভাবে এই তালিকা প্রকাশ করে। গবেষণাপত্রের সংখ্যা, সাইটেশন, এইচ-ইনডেক্স, গবেষণায় ধারাবাহিকতা এবং সহ-লেখকদের অবদানের ওপর ভিত্তি করে তালিকাটি প্রস্তুত করা হয়েছে। বিশ্বের শীর্ষ ২ শতাংশ গবেষকের তালিকায় বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠান মিলিয়ে ৭২টি প্রতিষ্ঠানের গবেষক রয়েছেন।
বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলোর মধ্যে আমেরিকান ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি-বাংলাদেশ (এআইইউবি) এবং ড্যাফোডিল ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি থেকে ৫ জন করে, ইউনাইটেড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটি ও সাউথইস্ট বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ৩ জন করে, ইউনিভার্সিটি অব এশিয়া প্যাসিফিক, বাংলাদেশ ইউনিভার্সিটি অব হেলথ সায়েন্সেস এবং ইস্ট ওয়েস্ট ইউনিভার্সিটি থেকে ২ জন করে গবেষক তালিকায় রয়েছেন। এছাড়া বাংলাদেশ আর্মি ইউনিভার্সিটি অব সায়েন্স অ্যান্ড টেকনোলজি, গ্রিন ইউনিভার্সিটি অব বাংলাদেশ, ইনডিপেন্ডেন্ট ইউনিভার্সিটি বাংলাদেশ (আইইউবি), আন্তর্জাতিক ইসলামি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় চট্টগ্রাম, প্রাইমএশিয়া বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং ইউনিভার্সিটি অব ডেভেলপমেন্ট অলটারনেটিভ (ইউডা) থেকে একজন করে গবেষক স্থান পেয়েছেন।
সরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর মধ্যে সর্বাধিক গবেষক স্থান পেয়েছেন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ২৩ জন। এরপর আন্তর্জাতিক ডায়রিয়া গবেষণা কেন্দ্র বাংলাদেশ (আইসিডিডিআর,বি) থেকে ১৮ জন এবং রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ১৭ জন গবেষক তালিকায় জায়গা পেয়েছেন। এ ছাড়া বাংলাদেশ প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (বুয়েট) ১৫ জন, বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ১২ জন, জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ৮ জন, শাহজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ৮ জন, খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ৭ জন এবং চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ৬ জন গবেষক নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন।
এছাড়া মাওলানা ভাসানী বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ৫ জন, পাবনা বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ৫ জন, নোয়াখালী বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ৬ জন, যশোর বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ৯ জন এবং আরও বেশ কয়েকটি জাতীয় ও আঞ্চলিক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে গবেষকরা তালিকায় স্থান পেয়েছেন। পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশ পরমাণু শক্তি কমিশন, বাংলাদেশ বিজ্ঞান ও শিল্প গবেষণা পরিষদ (বিসিএসআইআর), স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তর, ঢাকা শিশু হাসপাতালসহ বিভিন্ন গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকেও গবেষকরা বিশ্বসেরা ২ শতাংশের অংশ হতে পেরেছেন।
এই অর্জন নিঃসন্দেহে বাংলাদেশের গবেষণা ও উচ্চশিক্ষা অঙ্গনের জন্য গর্বের বিষয়, যা আন্তর্জাতিক গবেষণাক্ষেত্রে দেশের অবস্থানকে আরও সুদৃঢ় করবে।

On August 10, 2025, the English Language Forum (ELF) of UIU organized a memorable quiz competition to commemorate "July 36", a symbolic date marking the nation’s hard-won victory and the day it reclaimed its freedom from the clutches of oppression. The date, July 36, honors the sacrifice and bravery of countless warriors who laid down their lives to secure the future of the nation.
In recognition of this historic day, the quiz featured 36 questions to be answered within 20 minutes, with a registration fee of 36 Taka a symbolic tribute to the nation’s victory. The event saw an overwhelming response, with over 400 registrations from participants eager to pay homage to the legacy of their forebears.
The event was a resounding success, culminating in the recognition of four winners, who were awarded cash prizes for their exceptional performances. The competition not only tested participants' knowledge but also brought together students and faculty members in a spirit of unity and remembrance.
A heartfelt thanks goes to the ELF team, from panel members to volunteers, who worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success. Their dedication and commitment made this event possible, turning it into a fitting tribute to those who fought for freedom.

This event was a powerful reminder that the struggles and sacrifices of our nation’s heroes continue to inspire and guide us toward a better future.
United International University’s Data Science Club hosted the highly anticipated Data Scientist’s Futsal Championship 2.0 from 17th to 20th August 2025. The three-day tournament brought together intense competition and vibrant teamwork, captivating both participants and spectators at the UIU field.
The event kicked off on 17th August, with teams showcasing impressive skills and determination. As the tournament progressed, the atmosphere intensified, culminating in an exciting semi-final stage. In the final, White Walkers and Endzone secured their spots, with White Walkers ultimately emerging as the champions after a fierce battle.
The success of the tournament was made possible through the support of sponsors like Wellbeing Pharmacy (Title Sponsor), MeneV (Powered By), ZootexBD.com (Co-Powered By), and Times UIU (Media Partner).
This event highlighted not only the victory of White Walkers but also the sportsmanship of all teams, fostering a sense of community and teamwork. The UIU Data Science Club’s efforts underscored the importance of extracurricular activities, providing students with a platform to compete, bond, and thrive.
The country’s first-ever Inter-University Go-Kart Championship, titled ‘Vroom Vroom’, was held today at Fantasy Kingdom, organised by Nagad. The high-speed, high-energy event brought together enthusiastic participants from 12 leading universities across Dhaka, Bangladesh, including AIUB, AUST, BRAC, BUP, Dhaka University, East West, IUB, Jahangirnagar, Jagannath, NSU, ULAB, and UIU. Each university was represented by four students, making for a thrilling and diverse competition.
In the midst of fierce racing and electric excitement, students from the BBA Department of United International University (UIU) delivered an outstanding performance. Sakib Bin Sayeed raced ahead of all competitors to claim the Championship title, while a student from AUST secured the 1st Runner-Up position, followed by Sayeed Hossain Chondon of UIU, who secured the 2nd Runner-Up spot, marking a proud double win for UIU.
This achievement stands as a testament to the talent, determination, and versatility of UIU students, showing that they can lead with excellence both on and off the track.
বিশ্বের নামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বলতে গেলে হার্ভার্ডের নাম প্রথম দিকেই আসে। কারণ, এটি এমন এক শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান যেখানে শিক্ষাজীবন শুরু করেছেন অনেক বিশ্ববিখ্যাত ও প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তিত্ব—যেমন: ফ্রাঙ্কলিন ডি. রুজভেল্ট, হেনরি কিসিঞ্জার, বারাক ওবামা, বিল গেটস, জন এফ. কেনেডি, টি. এস. এলিয়ট, মার্ক জাকারবার্গসহ আরও অনেকেই। এই প্রতিষ্ঠান ইতিহাসের এক অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। হার্ভার্ডে পড়েছেন আমেরিকার ৮ জন প্রেসিডেন্ট, ১৫৮ জন নোবেল বিজয়ী, ১০ জন অস্কারজয়ী, ৪৮ জন পুলিৎজার প্রাপ্ত এবং ১০৮ জন অলিম্পিক পদকজয়ী।
কেমন হয় যদি বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষার্থীরাও এই হার্ভার্ডে পড়ার সুযোগ পায়? হ্যাঁ, এমনই এক দারুণ সুযোগ দিচ্ছে হার্ভার্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। ‘হার্ভার্ড ইউনিভার্সিটি এমবিএ স্কলারশিপ’ নামের এই বৃত্তির জন্য বাংলাদেশসহ বিশ্বের যেকোনো দেশের শিক্ষার্থীরা আবেদন করতে পারবেন। আবেদনের শেষ সময়: ৩১ মে ২০২৫।
১৬৩৯ সালে ‘নিউ কলেজ’ নামে যাত্রা শুরু করেছিল এই প্রতিষ্ঠানটি, যার মূল উদ্দেশ্য ছিল খ্রিস্টান যাজকদের শিক্ষিত করে গড়ে তোলা। এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা জন হার্ভার্ড, যিনি চার্লসটাউনের একজন পাদ্রি ছিলেন এবং নিজের সম্পদের অর্ধেক ও বিশাল বইয়ের সংগ্রহ প্রতিষ্ঠানটিকে দান করেন। তার সম্মানেই কলেজটির নাম পরে ‘হার্ভার্ড কলেজ’ রাখা হয়।

রাজধানীর সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যানে সন্ত্রাসীদের ছুরিকাঘাতে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (ঢাবি) ছাত্রদল নেতা শাহরিয়ার আলম সাম্য (২৫) নিহতের ঘটনায় বিক্ষোভ মিছিল করেছেন নেতাকর্মীরা। মঙ্গলবার (১৩ মে) দিবাগত রাত ২টার দিকে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ (ঢামেক) থেকে তাৎক্ষণিক মিছিল বের করেন তারা।
পরে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভিসি চত্বরে ভিসির বাসভবনের সামনে বিক্ষোভ করেন নেতাকর্মীরা। সেখান থেকে শিক্ষার্থীদের নিরাপত্তা দিতে ব্যর্থ ঢাবি ভিসি ও প্রক্টরের পদত্যাগ দাবি করেন ঢাবি ছাত্রদলের সভাপতি গণেশ চন্দ্র রায় সাহস। এ সময় ‘দফা এক দাবি এক, ভিসির পদত্যাগ’, আমার ভাইয়ের লাশ পড়ে, প্রশাসন কী করে' ইত্যাদি স্লোগান দেন নেতাকর্মীরা।
মিছিলে ছাত্রদল সভাপতি রাকিবুল ইসলাম রাকিব, সাধারণ সম্পাদক নাসির উদ্দিন নাসির, ঢাবি ছাত্রদলের সভাপতি গণেশ চন্দ্র রায় সাহস, সাধারণ সম্পাদক নাহিদুজ্জামান শিপনসহ বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের নেতাকর্মী উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
এর আগে রাত ১২টার দিকে সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যান এলাকায় সন্ত্রাসীদের ছুরিকাঘাতে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্যার এ এফ রহমান হল শাখা ছাত্রদলের সাহিত্য ও প্রকাশনা সম্পাদক শাহরিয়ার আলম সাম্য নিহত হন। সাম্য ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষা ও গবেষণা বিভাগের মাস্টার্সের শিক্ষার্থী ছিলেন। তার বাড়ি সিরাজগঞ্জের উল্লাপাড়া থানা এলাকায়।
