Md. Tarek Hasan, a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at United International University (UIU), has achieved a rare academic distinction by earning Gold Medals in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs from the university.

At UIU 8th Convocation, Md. Tarek Hasan was awarded the Gold Medal in the Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering (MSCSE) program. Earlier, he had been named Valedictorian of the 7th Convocation after securing top honours in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering (BSCSE) program, making this his second Gold Medal achievement at UIU.

His dual success in BSCSE and MSCSE reflects sustained academic excellence and dedication to higher education. Now serving as a faculty member, Md. Tarek Hasan continues to contribute to the academic development of students while setting an inspiring example through his own scholarly accomplishments.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at United International University (UIU), established in accordance with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, has made remarkable progress in recent years. As part of the nationwide quality assurance framework introduced under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), IQAC plays a pivotal role in promoting continuous quality improvement and ensuring that higher education aligns with international standards.

At UIU, the IQAC has been actively working to institutionalise a culture of quality assurance across academics, research, and administration. Following UGC directives and the national quality assurance framework, the cell has consistently contributed to strengthening academic quality, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting accreditation readiness.

Currently, this office is managed by Dr. Mofijul Hoq Masum, Director, IQAC; Mr. Jakowan, Deputy Director, IQAC; and Ms.Lamia Chowdhury, Coordinator, IQAC.

One of IQAC’s major achievements is the regular Self-Assessment (SA) process conducted within departments. These assessments help refine curricula, modernise teaching and learning methods, and enhance evaluation systems. As a result, UIU has made significant progress in curriculum revision, adopting outcome-based education (OBE), and clearly defining course-level and program-level outcomes.

IQAC’s support has also been instrumental in achieving international recognition. Several programs under the School of Business & Economics have earned ACBSP accreditation, reflecting adherence to global quality benchmarks. Structured learning objectives, faculty qualifications, and continuous improvement practices guided by IQAC were highly praised by international review teams.

Beyond academic quality, IQAC contributes to improving governance, student admissions, academic progress monitoring, infrastructure, and student support services. Through regular surveys and feedback from students, parents, alumni, and other stakeholders, the cell provides evidence-based recommendations that directly influence policy development and service enhancement.

To strengthen teaching capacity, IQAC organises workshops, training sessions, and seminars for faculty members. These initiatives promote modern, student-centred, and outcome-based teaching practices, helping sustain a culture of continuous improvement across the university.

Through these collaborative efforts, UIU has consolidated its position among the leading private universities in Bangladesh. Despite offering quality programs, the university has earned a strong reputation for maintaining high standards and ensuring transparency in its quality assurance practices.

By upholding national quality guidelines and championing continuous development, UIU IQAC serves as a strong example of effective quality assurance implementation in Bangladeshi higher education, continuing to support the university’s strategic growth.

Prof. Dr. Md. Qamruzzaman, a faculty member of United International University (UIU) faculty member, has once again been recognised in the Stanford-Elsevier Top 2% Scientists list for 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Specialising in Enabling and Strategic Technologies with a sub-focus on Energy, Prof. Dr. Md. Qamruzzaman secured a global rank of 18,826 and a subfield rank of 329, with an H-index of 16 and an Hm-index of 10, highlighting his significant research contributions and academic influence.
