The evening was graced by Hasan Mahmood Raja, Chief Adviser of United Group, as the Chief Guest. Special guests included K.M.A. Shamim, Adviser; Moinuddin Hasan Rashid, Chairman and Managing Director; and Sharfuddin Akhter Rashid, Director. Unimart CEO Gazi Mahfuzur Rahman and COO Shahin Mahmud were also present.
A key highlight was the tribute to top-performing partners across Food, Non-Food, Perishables, Lifestyle, and Sustainability recognizing their role in upholding Unimart's values of innovation, quality, and shared growth.

United Power Generation & Distribution Company Ltd. (UPGDCL) has been honoured with the SDG Brand Champion Award 2025 for its pioneering Eco-friendly Steam Initiative — a sustainable energy innovation that harnesses waste heat from gas engines to cut industrial carbon emissions.
Since its launch in 2014, the initiative has supplied over 294 million kg of green steam to industries across the Dhaka and Chittagong EPZs, helping prevent more than 49,500 tons of CO₂ emissions compared to conventional steam generation methods.
This accolade acknowledges UPGDCL’s vital contributions to SDGs 7, 9, 12, and 13, reaffirming the company’s unwavering commitment to cleaner, more sustainable industrial energy solutions.
Md Moinul Islam Khan, CEO of United Power, and Shish Swapnik, Head of Group Brand, accepted the award at a ceremony held at Radisson Blu Dhaka.
The event brought together an esteemed gathering of healthcare professionals, academicians, senior officials, and distinguished guests.
“Our mission is to make comprehensive healthcare accessible to all. Through the United Cardiac Centre, we aim to introduce advanced cardiac surgeries in Bangladesh that were once thought to be beyond our capabilities. This will help us establish a strong reputation both nationally and internationally,” said Prof Dr AQM Mohsen.
Moinuddin Hasan Rashid, Chairman and Managing Director of United Group, added, “With this centre, we seek to minimise the need for patients to travel abroad for cardiac treatment and ensure access to world-class care right here in Bangladesh.”
The event also featured remarks from Prof. Dr Mohsin Ahmed, Chief Consultant and Director of the Cath Lab, Department of Cardiology, followed by detailed presentations from Dr Md. Rowsan Masud, Prof. Dr Mofassel Uddin Ahmed, and Dr Syed Mohammed Atique, highlighting the centre’s advanced treatment capabilities.
Dr Azharul Islam Khan, Director of Medical Services, and Dr Md Abdul Wakil, Principal, extended a warm welcome to guests. Among the notable attendees were architect and filmmaker Enamul Karim Nirjhar, architect and actress Aupee Karim, as well as leading cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, department heads, and senior administrative officials.
The United Cardiac Centre is poised to provide comprehensive cardiac care, encompassing consultations, diagnostics, interventions, and surgeries, all under one roof, delivering world-class standards with compassion and excellence.
The projects aim to develop AI-powered healthcare solutions and climate-resilient housing for vulnerable populations.
The first initiative, SmartAMR: Advancing Digital Healthcare with AI-driven Intelligence, led by Dr Tahmina Foyez, Associate Professor and Head of Pharmacy, along with Dr Ohidujjaman Tuhin, Assistant Professor of CSE, focuses on enhancing medication adherence, minimising prescription errors, and combating antimicrobial resistance.
The second project, AIMScribe: AI-Driven Scribing System with Prescription Counselling Tools, will be directed by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nurul Huda of CSE and Prof. Dr. Kaled Masukur Rahman, Head of EEE. This project aims to simplify clinical documentation, improve prescription safety, and empower patients through AI-assisted support tools.
The third initiative, Development of a Modular System for Amphibious Disaster-Resistant Homes, spearheaded by Dr Md. Saiful Islam, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, alongside Mr Nazmus Sakib Pallab, Lecturer, focuses on creating sustainable, flood-resilient housing using bamboo ferrocement panels.
The contract signing ceremony was attended by UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz, UGC Members Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Prof. Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, as well as HEAT Project Director Prof. Dr. Asaduzzaman and representatives from the World Bank. Representing UIU were the Sub-Project Managers, Treasurer Engr. Md. Abdul Moqaddem and Prof. Khondaker A. Mamun, Director of IRIIC.
UIU emphasised that these projects reflect its ongoing commitment to harnessing innovation and research to tackle pressing national challenges in healthcare, technology, and disaster resilience. The Institute for Research, Innovation, Incubation & Commercialisation (IRIIC) played a pivotal role in facilitating these research endeavours.
